This Volkswagen Caddy Pick-Up is a South African import, where these cars were sold as the VW Bakkie. Its original 1.8-litre engine has been replaced with an 8v 2.0-litre GTi engine, coupled to a five-speed manual gearbox.
The pick-up dates from 1st January 1991, and it was first registered in the UK on 1st July 2023. Its engine is running a racing ECU, but the vendor tells us that an MoT would require a different ECU and a “possible loom tidy up” because the emissions caused by the current ECU are too high to pass an MoT test. The latest MoT expired last year.
Our vendor describes this as “fast, ideal project” that might be a good candidate for racing, but the next owner will need to update the DVLA regarding the engine change as the V5C is showing the previous engine capacity.
The odometer displays an impressive 340,044kms (211,300 miles).
